BMW ROAD-GOING R 1250 UPDATES

BMW has pulled the covers off its 2023 R1250R and R1250RS with both bikes receiving updates going into 2023 . At the centre of both is BMW ’ s legendary two-cylinder boxer engine . It still has an engine capacity of 1254cc and , even in the current EU5 registration , puts down a healthy 136hp of very usable power thanks to BMW ShiftCam technology . For 2023 , BMW has boosted the tech spec of both the 1250R and RS with Dynamic Traction Control ( DTC ) and a new “ ECO ” driving mode as standard equipment . Riding Modes Pro with riding mode preselection and engine drag torque control ( MSR ) is also set to be available as optional equipment . Helping the big Beamers braking is an updated ABS system which features BMW Integral ABS Pro as standard . This system is lean sensitive and works in conjunction with the riding modes . BMW also says that as the riding mode concept continues to expand , more new functions will also be added . Whether this will be via a software patch at a dealership or an optional extra is yet to be determined .

As part of the “ Riding Modes Pro ” option , Dynamic Brake Control ( DBC ) additionally supports the rider during emergency braking manoeuvres . The system essentially stops unintentional throttle activation by reducing drive torque during braking so as to make full use of the braking power at the rear wheel . Other updates for 2023 include an extra USB-A charge part , and the options of heated rider and pillion seats in both models .
Expected NZ arrival of the new R1250R and R1250RS is yet to be announced by local distributor Sime Darby .
