W hile the brains behind the bikes at KTM have opted to refrain from giving us a factory 390 Adventure R model at this stage , Hamilton KTM dealer Boyd ’ s Motorcycles has gone ahead and dragged the little ADV backwards through the KTM Powerparts catalogue to give us a taste on what one could look like , and we like what we see . The little 390 Adventure turned out to be the darling of the KTM Adventure line in 2020 . The new kid on the block outsold its larger , more capable stablemates like the 790 Adventure R as Kiwis jumped on the well-equipped compact adventure offering from Mattighofen to the tune of nearly five to one . That ’ s in part thanks to its sub $ 10,000 price tag and impressive base specification , but also a result of riders of all ages looking to accessible bikes for touring the country on now international adventures are temporarily off the cards . Now , the Boyd ’ s Motorcycles team knows the KTM brand inside and out , and with big boss Greg nabbing a hot ticket to the sold-out 2020 KTM NZ Adventure Rallye he wanted a bike to show off at the event .

POWERPARTS CATALOGUE So after plucking a 390 Adventure from the showroom floor , Greg and the Boyd ’ s techs set to work scouring the KTM Powerparts catalogue for anything that would help the 390 take on the toughest trails that the King Country has to offer . To start off , Greg and his team bolted on to the 390 a set of 640cc LC4-era mirrors they found lying around in the workshop . With a factory hinge allowing the mirrors to fold in when the bike , inevitably , takes a fall its a
