SCOTT FLYING SQUIRREL It is difficult to pick out any favourites , because there are so many , but I ’ ll do my best ; the 1929 Scott Flying Squirrel 600 stands out as one of the most innovative motorcycles of its day . Alfred Angus Scott , one of the great innovators in early motorcycling patented the first form of calliper brakes in 1877 . A fully triangulated frame , rotary induction valves , unit construction , and the first motorcycle kick start , were also to his credit . In a four-stroke obsessed industry Scott produced light and fast two-strokes that gave him victories in the 1912 and 1913 Isle of Man Senior TTs . It is said that until Ernst Degner invented the disc valve in the 1950s the Scott encapsulated all that was worth knowing about two-stroke technology , but it wasn ’ t until 1973 that a two-stroke Suzuki won the Senior TT . Also in the collection is the 1934 Scott 600 Isle of Man Replica .
