July 6, 1969 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-
Francorchamps when test rider Percy Tait
finished second to the all-conquering 500cc
three-cylinder MV Agusta ridden by Giacomo
Agostini. Tait led the first three laps of the 13
lap, 183.3km race. For the record, Agostini’s
winning average speed was 202km/h. Tait’s
race average on the two-valve, push-rod
500cc Triumph twin was 187 km/h.
