FLAT TRACK
INSPIRED INDIAN 1200
ndian Motorcycles has launched two
new machines, the FTR1200 and
FTR1200S, to celebrate the success of
the company's FTR750 flat track racer.
The FTR750 won the 2017 American
Flat Track Manufacturer’s Championship for
Indian, giving the American manufacturer
its first championship title for over 60 years.
The two new machines ape the design of
the race machine, featuring a 1203cc V-twin
motor that pumps out 120hp and 115Nm,
ensuring there'll be plenty of mumbo to
back up the racer looks. Indian claims a flat
torque curve for predictable power delivery

and lots of flexibility. The engine boasts a
12.5:1 compression ratio, high-flow cylinder
heads, twin throttle bodies, extensive use
of magnesium to reduce weight and a low
inertia crank for a fast revving nature.
Housed in a trellis frame with a sporty
riding position, both models feature
inverted front suspension with radially-
mounted twin disc Brembo brakes. The
fuel tank is located under the seat for a
low centre of gravity and more centralised
weight distribution. Similar to the FTR750
racer, the airbox is positioned directly
above the engine to optimise airflow.
