WORDS: JANE WHITAKER/QUEENS OF DIRT PHOTOS: PHIL SMITH, CLMINTIEPIX RISE OF THE QUEENS Rise Of The Queens, 2019 will definitely go down as the start of something great for women's dirt biking in New Zealand. So let me hit you with some facts, although let’s use that term loosely… • The biggest off-road ladies’ event New Zealand has ever seen • New Zealand’s first and biggest ever moto-ice-cream team relay! There’s no research to quantify it but we've never heard of it, so we are claiming it • Possibly a new world record for the most number of women with brain freeze in a one hour period • One hundred and fifty Queens on bikes • One hundred and fifty smiling faces • By far the most badass women’s dirt bike event ever This all-new event was in hot demand, and to the surprise of the Queens Of Dirt Committee sold out much faster than we ever anticipated. We saw ladies come from all over the country to be a part of this epic new event. What was it all about? Well, you name it and Rise Of The Queens had it! There were goodie bags, tee’s, a trail ride, skills coaching, equipment coaching, a very popular moto-ice-cream team relay, drinks and nibbles, a guest speaker and an absolute tonne of spot prizes for the assembled ladies. Queens Of Dirt contracted only the best – Forest Trail Events – to run the trail ride, which consisted of three loops – a novice track, a 10km and a 30km track… and the dirt was perfect! It was literally the best you can get at Ohakuri. We were very lucky with bluebird skies on the Saturday... which turned out to be perfect ice cream eating weather. KIWI RIDER 23
