SCOTT BROOKER With all the things happening here at MotoSR, I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it to this year’s Dusty Butt. But with only two weeks until the event, and a call to Claire from Epic events asking if they could squeeze me in, it was on. Just time to book the ferry, sneak some accommodation with friends, prep my KTM 1190 Adventure R (oil, filters, new adventure rubber) and good to go. This was my second year at Dusty Butt and as I was only going for one week with no camping I was able to pack pretty light. Experience is a beautiful thing. I took the main route down with mum and dad in tow on their Honda Goldwing. You just can’t beat the ferry crossing into the sounds on a nice day. What a beautiful place we live in. After a few good cafe bakery stops along the way we arrived in Fairlie on Thursday night for the rider briefing, and a good catch up with 150-odd, like-minded people. You just can’t beat the ferry crossing into the sounds on a nice day. What a beautiful place we live in DAY ONE With rain all night and an early start, I left in the dark to combat day one’s 500km of mostly off road riding. It was a slick start with a few riders on their side on the first hill. Though it was slick, it kept the dust down and made for perfect grip on the gravel roads. It was a good day ending at Monteith’s bar in Alexandra for dinner and a chin wag. KIWI RIDER 101
