PETER OLIVER'S SHOT TAKES THE VOTE
Judges Notes: It was a very interesting contest and the entries were of a consistently high standard. The winner was not a unanimous decision but was chosen by a majority of the committee.
Thank you again and 'nice work' to all who entered.
Members of the Judging Panel almost all selected different favourites.
Of the Ladies on the Panel, The Co-pilot, who is an experienced action photographer in her own right, voted for ' Dude on a Bike, because I like people shots and Tyron Harford's is very well done.'
Linda Glaswell, tester, writer and the proof reader who looks intently at every page in KIWIRIDER magazine: 'Dean Cook "Dunstan Trail".
Because this picture encapsulates the immensity of the South Island, the feeling of being all alone in the world, the overwhelming "quiet" when the engines are switched off, and the realisation that we are just so lucky to live here.
The boys on the committee saw it differently too. The Ed: 'I like the new vs old shot by Eddie.
Nice composition and juxtaposition...and the sort of shot we'd all like to think we could take while out riding!'
But in the end it was the votes from two of the magazine's contributing photographers that decided the winner.
Anderw Bright whose fabulous Ultrapics appear regularly in the mag summed up Peter's shot: 'Good action, good background, good light. Needs a crop but otherwise it ticks all the boxes, and most importantly, it makes me happy in my special place. Second place to the Kingston flyer I think, mostly because of the level of technical achievement (in focus, well exposed, correct white balance, evenly lit, nice sharp image/quality lens)'
Big Dave, web site editor and contributing photographer: 'I really enjoy 'When good times go bad!!' by Frenchy and the marvelous moment where the bike is balanced on its tail, Cameron's Argh 1 and Feet Up also appealed, so do most of them, but in the end I had to agree with Andrew. 'Going like f*&%#' has a level of technical excellence and craft, along with the stunning subject, that makes it my winner too.
Thanks again to all who contributed - our web site has been richer for it.
Peter, we'll be in touch to deliver your voucher.
Another competition soon, we hope you have enjoyed it - we have, so keep Snapping.
