'You know you guys are the second press people to ride the bike - first outside the original release?' said Peter Payne from Yamaha NZ.

I'm glad we had the opportunity. It was a LOT of fun and the bike is quite spectacularly fast.

We met up at Meremere, outside the Drag strip, and they tossed us the keys for a quick ride and feel of the bike on the open road.

First impressions were 'stable, fast and with remarkably light steering'.

The distances between corners close in very quickly and the potency of the bike is immediately obvious.

Then after a quick blat they let us loose on the drag strip - all to ourselves - with a new V-max. Pinch me!
