Colin Furze is a sometimes inspirational young man.
He’s from Stamford in Lincolnshire and has a knack for setting world records and ‘I wish I’d done that’ feats.
The best thing about this 2-wheeled hero is he makes us laugh while he’s doing it.
Many of us first became aware of his derring-do with a You Tube Video about his homemade Wall of Death. Yep, Colin and his mates fabricated their own circular wall from pallets and plywood and the footage of him taming the monster on a 50cc scooter is classic.
Now, disappointed that ‘some Slovenians’ have beaten his record for the world’s biggest Bonfire, he set out on a new record-breaking feat. He decided to build the world’s longest motorcycle.
In his own words, ‘I wanted to do a bike orientated record attempt but as speed records need a lot of money and a skilled mechanic, the long bike seemed more like me.’
He said it was ‘A great, long, impractical machine that took about 2 months to build.’
Asked about the machine’s performance he replied: ‘To qualify for a new world record the bike had to be ridden for 100 meters, but I could ride it 100 miles as long as it’s straight. Corners are possible, but not easy, as the bike is heavy and a handful at slow speeds. (We’re not surprised Colin.) But with a top speed of 33-mph there’s not a lot of scope for long distance travel anyway.’
Probably because he is grinning as much as we are.
At this stage he is still awaiting confirmation from Guiness that ‘14.026m axle to axle or 14.576 overall’ is official, but is confident of qualification.
We look forward to further exploits.
