'The weather is better this time.' was the refrain for the weekend. There was some rain on Saturday afternoon, but not enough to interfere with the event programs.
There are six parts to the Burt Munro Challenge.
-
Friday Afternoon Beach Racing at Oreti Beach
-
Saturday Circuit Races at Teretonga Raceway
and Speedway at Oreti Park.
-
Sunday Toy run and Street Racing at nearby Wyndham
-
Plus the Rally proper and the big party in the marquees.
It's a truly excellent celebration of Kiwi motorcycling held under the banner of a famous Kiwi name.
Approximate attendances:
-
Rally 2,300
-
Spectators Beach - 7,000
-
Spectators Teretonga - TBA
-
Spectators Speedway - 5,000
-
Spectators Wyndham - 6,000-7,000
Competitors numbers:
Interislander advised they had 700 bookings for bike crossings from the North Island.
A great event.
The whole city comes alive with motorcycle enthusiasts and a mobile 2-wheeled party.
The pictures tell the story best. The Full Photo set is online now.
